Located in a hilly area infested with malaria is the third hospital opened by Dr.
Thomson in a building donated by the Government. What was previously a salt store-house
was remodeled into a hospital and opened on October 26, 1881. Additional rooms,
a Maternity ward and a deep well were later constructed. A government hospital was
started nearby and the hospital had to be shut down temporarily between 1954 to
1960. It was reopened and further expanded and an X-ray laboratory was opened as
well. The hospital proved very useful especially to the labourers of the various
rubber estates in the locality. Various Community Health centres in multiple villages
were opened which offered medical counseling and promoted health awareness.
